Traffic Case Records in Crane County
Traffic and other fine-only cases in Crane County flow through two lower courts. The Crane Countywide Justice of the Peace handles county JP traffic. It also takes Class C cases. The City of Crane Municipal Court has its own jurisdiction, and it handles city ordinance and Class C matters. The two run in parallel. A city citation never becomes a county JP record on its own, so a search of one court cannot rule out a file in the other.
Check the citation itself. The issuing agency and court name printed on it are the best routing clue. The JP clerk keeps the JP court record. The municipal clerk keeps the city record. A traffic docket may list the citation or cause number, plea, scheduled setting, disposition, and payment activity. Even so, it is an activity record rather than the full document file. Need a signed order or certified disposition? Name it along with the citation in your request.
Crane County district and county clerks maintain other case types. They are not the default home for a local traffic ticket. Start with the named lower court. That venue-first step prevents a common dead end in a Crane County docket search.
Crane County Traffic Courts Compared
The county JP offers the strongest online traffic search in Crane County. The city court advertises no comparable public case lookup. That gap changes how a search begins. It does not change who owns the record.
| Route | Crane County JP | City Municipal Court |
|---|---|---|
| Typical matter | Countywide JP traffic or Class C case | City ordinance or municipal Class C case |
| Online access | Tyler violation search with several search keys | No public docket or payment portal located |
| Fallback | Call 432-558-1108 or contact the JP counter | Call 432-558-7747 or visit the city court |
| Custodian | Justice of the Peace court | City of Crane Municipal Court clerk |
The City of Crane Municipal Court page posts its court information and official forms. Do not mistake the city utility-payment links for court payment links. Ask the municipal clerk. The clerk can give you the current plea and payment route. Note: Give the clerk three things. Give the issuing court, the citation number, and your name, so the court can tell a city matter from a county JP case.
Crane County Traffic Ticket Lookups
The main county route is Crane County JP Municipal Online Services. Its public screen is labeled "Search violations." Use only your own identifying details, or details you are authorized to provide. Check the court name on the paper ticket first. The JP portal is not the city court's index.
- Read the citation and identify the issuing court. Keep the citation or case number at hand.
- For a JP matter, search by citation or case number. Record the displayed status and setting.
- If the paper is missing, the interface also provides name and date-of-birth fields. Other routes include license or vehicle fields.
- If no result appears, call the JP or visit its counter. For a city citation, call Municipal Court.
- Ask the clerk to confirm the court date, deadline, balance, plea status, and copy process.
The statewide re:SearchTX Court Records Search may help with records from participating trial courts. It does not replace the local JP violation portal. The Texas citation and notice search deals with public notices and citation by publication. It is not a traffic-ticket database. When an online route fails, the phone, mail, and clerk counter remain the authoritative options for a Crane County case lookup.
Six Crane County Citation Searches
The JP interface offers six routes. Each targets a different detail from your own citation. Case or citation number is the narrowest choice. Name and birth date work when the paper number is unavailable. Never enter sensitive identifiers just to test the portal. The official JP search screen displays the local violation fields used for Crane County traffic records.
The page shows a court-specific service with local violation fields, a help number, and an office banner. It is not a statewide driver-history request.
| Search route | Fields shown | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Case or citation | Case Number or Citation Number | Direct lookup from court paper |
| Driver license | DL Number and state | Own case without the ticket number |
| Social Security | SSN and date of birth | Sensitive authorized fallback |
| Vehicle | Plate Number and state | Own vehicle-linked matter |
| Name | First Name, Last Name, DOB | Name search with a date check |
| Business | Business Name | Business-named violation |
Sign In and Register controls appear too. The public fields are open without any private sample. No result limit or export tool is offered. Treat a result as an index lead. Verify it with the JP whenever a deadline matters.
Traffic Court Dates in Crane County
Check the date printed on the citation first. A portal may show a later setting after filing, and a new citation can take time to reach the system. Compare the paper notice against the online entry. If they conflict, confirm with the court before traveling or missing a deadline on your Crane County traffic case.
| Citation Number | Use the ticket identifier, represented as YOUR-CITATION-NUMBER. Research did not establish one fixed local format. |
|---|---|
| Court | Confirms whether the matter belongs to the JP or City Municipal Court. |
| Date & Time | May be an appearance deadline, arraignment, trial, or other setting. |
| Location | Use the location supplied by the issuing court. |
| Status | May reflect pending, paid, disposed, or warrant-related activity. |
No single interactive daily calendar covers all Crane County courts. The 109th Judicial District Court schedules are not JP dockets. They are not municipal traffic dockets either. A district date labeled criminal jury is not a notice for a citation. For county traffic, the JP portal and clerk serve. The city clerk confirms municipal settings. For more setting context, see the Crane County court schedule.
Older Crane County Traffic Citations
The JP portal carries a key local warning. Citations filed before December 5, 2022 are the exception. Those should be handled by contacting the court. A blank search for an older ticket does not prove that no case exists. It may only mean the matter predates the portal's displayed coverage.
Older-ticket check: Call the Crane County JP at 432-558-1108 with the citation number, name, approximate date, and issuing agency.
Call the clerk and ask three things. Can they find the entry, and what is its status? Can you get a plain or certified copy? Tickets written inside the City of Crane go to the municipal clerk instead. The city runs its own system no matter how old the case is. When neither office recognizes the number, go back to the issuing-agency details printed on the paper ticket rather than digging through unrelated district cases.
Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It
The Crane JP courtesy letter lays out guilty, no-contest, and not-guilty options. Your signature on the citation is itself a promise to appear. The letter warns this. Plead not guilty and you are asking for a trial before a judge or jury. Paying does not buy time. It is a plea, and its disposition lands in the permanent court record.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| A guilty or no-contest plea is recorded with the disposition. | A not-guilty plea requests a judge or jury trial. |
| Respond by the deadline on the ticket or notice. | Enter the plea by the deadline and obtain the trial setting. |
| The letter lists cashier’s check, money order, and online or phone channels; no personal checks. | Send or deliver the plea as the issuing court directs and confirm receipt. |
The letter's speeding fines shift, so treat them as a guide. It shows $150 for 1–5 miles over. The next tiers are $165 for 6–10, $185 for 11–14, and $250 for 15–20. Speeds of 21 or more run $325. Speeding in a school zone or a construction-worker zone doubles those amounts. Always confirm the current total with the clerk. Later revisions and added costs can change what you owe.
Missed appearance: The JP letter warns that failure to appear may cause another charge, a warrant, and an inability to renew a driver’s license. Contact the issuing court promptly for current resolution steps.
Crane County DSC Form Conflict
Crane County's own defensive-driving paperwork quotes two different fees. The courtesy letter's defensive-driving section says $135. A separate official DSC notary form says $157. Get the JP clerk to settle the difference before you send money or forms, because neither figure is a guaranteed current total. The courtesy material also wants court approval before you finish the course. Requirements include a noncommercial license, insurance, the citation itself, a certified Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS, payment, and a signed or notarized affidavit. Once approved, you have 90 days to complete the course. Disqualifiers listed include a commercial license. So do 95 miles per hour or more and 25 or more over the limit. Any course taken within the prior 12 months also counts. DSC just means the defensive driving or safety-course process on the local form. It is not an automatic dismissal. Confirm your eligibility, the current charge, the deadline, and every required item. And keep proof that the court received your request.
Two Records: Court File and Driver File
Two different records answer two different questions here. The JP or Municipal Court holds the citation file, which may show the cause, the plea, court settings, the disposition, and payment entries. The state licensing agency keeps a separate driver record. Knowing the difference helps you pick the right office and the right document the first time.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Crane County JP or City Municipal Court | Texas Department of Public Safety |
| Shows | Citation, plea, setting, disposition, docket activity | State licensing history maintained by DPS |
| How to get it | Portal, phone, counter, mail, or clerk-directed route | Official DPS request channel |
A blank local result proves nothing about a DPS file. And a state record cannot substitute for a certified court disposition. When you need proof of how a ticket ended, ask the court that heard it which certified record it can issue.
Crane County Traffic Docket Terms
Local forms pack whole court steps into a few short words.
- Citation
- The ticket that identifies the alleged violation and response requirement.
- Cause number
- The court-assigned case identifier, which may differ from the citation number.
- Plea
- The recorded response of guilty, no contest, or not guilty.
- Setting
- A date and time assigned for an appearance, hearing, or trial.
- DSC
- The defensive-driving or safety-course process in the JP forms.
- FTA
- Failure to appear, with the consequences warned of in the courtesy letter.
A disposition is simply the recorded outcome. "Paid" and "disposed" are not always the same label. A reset is not a dismissal. Ask the clerk what a given status means in that specific record. For broader case routes, the county's docket search lists them.
Crane County JP Traffic Workload
The Texas OCA FY2024 justice-court report shows the countywide court's scale. Its criminal category opened with 3,387 active cases. It added 976, disposed of 884, listed 3 inactive, and closed with 3,525 active pending. These are fiscal-year activity counts, nothing more. They are not unique people, convictions, or a list of current tickets.
That volume explains why the JP portal beats a generic district search for a traffic ticket. It also makes precise identifiers matter. Hand the clerk the citation or cause number, and make clear whether the case is a new filing or an older record past the portal cutoff.
Traffic Record Copy Fees
Ask the issuing court for its current traffic-record fee. The linked 2024 Crane County fee schedule posts general clerk copy and certification amounts. But it is dated, and it does not prove every JP or city traffic request costs the same.
| Item | Published Amount | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Plain copy | $1 per page | General 2024 schedule; confirm with the court |
| Certified copy | $1 per page plus $5 per document | Ask whether the disposition can be certified |
| Search or abstract | Not established | Request a current quote |
For the JP, call 432-558-1108 or write to P.O. Box 148, Crane, TX 79731. The municipal court sits at 115 W. 6th Street, Crane, TX 79731, phone 432-558-7747. Its page posts Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Confirm hours before you go. Say whether you need a plain docket, a certified disposition, or another filing. Then ask about cost, payment, delivery, and identification rules. Note: Court hours, portal access, and fees can all change. Verify each one with the office holding the record.
